OVER 20 GLOBAL DEBUTS FOR BEST-EVER BRITISH INTERNATIONAL MOTOR SHOW

25 Juni, 2008

Over 20 cars will make their global debuts at next month’s British International Motor Show, sponsored by Zurich Connect (23 July to 3 August at ExCeL, London).

The host of high-profile unveilings underlines the rising status of the Show in the international automotive industry, and will build on the success of the award-winning 2006 event when 13 cars were premiered.

The new Opel/Vauxhall Insignia will be one of the most significant reveals at the ExCeL show. Predicted to be a fleet and family favourite, the new car is expected to take the brand to a new level in terms of quality, refinement and design. Lotus will also wow visitors, unveiling its first all-new model in 12 years – a mid-engined 2+2 sports car, codenamed ‘Project Eagle’.

Petrolheads will be keen to see other performance-focused global debuts including Ford’s super-hot Focus RS – the fastest and most dynamically advanced Focus ever, Toyota’s 200bhp Aygo Crazy concept car, and the 200mph Bentley Continental Flying Spur Speed, billed as the fastest saloon car in the world.

The SEAT Ibiza SportCoupé, new-look Land Rover Discovery and the Nissan Qashqai+2 are among other global firsts for the Show.

There will be plenty of ‘green’ international premieres at the Show too, such as the Ford Fiesta ECOnetic, which emits less than 100 g/km of CO2. A host of alternative-fuel cars will also break cover for the first time, including an all-electric two-seater and an MPV from London’s NICE Car Company.

As well as over 20 world firsts, more than 30 additional vehicles will make their UK debuts, including some exhilarating sports cars and a number of futuristic concept vehicles.
“We are thrilled to be hosting more than 20 genuine global premieres, reinforcing the prominence of the Show in the automotive world,” enthused Kirsty Perkinson, Marketing Director for the Motor Show.

“Ours is by far the biggest motoring event in the UK, and it is certainly the only place where the public will see so many genuine, high-calibre world firsts – the mark of a major international show. With more cars, more manufacturers and more attractions, the Motor Show will be this year’s most exciting motoring event.

“It’s no wonder that so many manufacturers are choosing to launch important new cars here. The UK is Europe’s third largest car market, and the Show offers manufacturers the perfect environment to present their brand new motoring metal to over half a million car buyers and enthusiasts.”

The full list of global debuts will be published at the Show, as some premieres are still to be officially announced by car makers.

The British International Motor Show is the biggest automotive exhibition in the UK and is expected to attract 550,000 visitors this year. The Show will host 60 vehicle manufacturers, with over 15 exhibitors coming to ExCeL for the first time, including Ferrari, Maserati, Subaru and Suzuki, and over 600 vehicles will be on display.

The broad range of exciting, dynamic attractions at the Show is sure to appeal to more than just car fanatics. On-water activities, the Kids Driving Experiences, the Motor Show Music Festival and numerous interactive features will ensure a great day out for all.

Tickets for the Show start at just 10 GBP for an adult weekday pass and 6 GBP for a child’s ticket. Stunt-loving visitors to the Show can also opt to visit Dreamscape: Honda’s live action arena for just 5 GBP.
